Modern paint-matching technology is extremely accurate, but matching automotive paint is not always as simple as using a colour code and spraying the panel.
A vehicle’s paint can change over time, and several factors can affect how a colour appears. That is why professional colour matching involves much more than selecting a tin of paint from a code.
A Paint Code Is Only the Starting Point
Every vehicle has a manufacturer paint code that identifies its original colour.
This gives us the correct colour family, but it does not always provide one exact formula. Manufacturers may use several different paint variants under the same code.

Adjacent Panels May Already Be Different
It is common for neighbouring panels to have slight colour differences before a new repair begins.

This happens because plastic and metal reflect light differently and may use different primers underneath the colour.

This helps the eye move naturally across the panels without seeing a sudden change in colour.

Freshly painted and polished surfaces often have a higher gloss than older surrounding paintwork. This can make the new area appear deeper, darker or brighter.
